Bacterial Viral Filter (BVF) for Breathing Circuits
Low-resistance breathing filter
The BV Filter is designed for use in anesthesia and respiratory breathing circuits, providing effective filtration with low breathing resistance.
Key takeaways
- Low-resistance breathing circuit filter for anesthesia and respiratory circuits, in adult and child types.
- Listed filtration efficiency above 99.9% and resistance below 100 Pa at 30 L/min.
- Filtration only, without humidification; choose the HME filter when heat and moisture exchange is also needed.
The HOPE Medical bacterial viral filter (BVF) is a single-use breathing circuit filter. It sits in the circuit and filters the gas that flows between the patient and the anesthesia machine or ventilator, while keeping breathing resistance low.
Key Features
- Filtration efficiency above 99.9%
- Resistance below 100 Pa at 30 L/min
- Adult and child types
- Connectors: 15 mm male, 15 mm female, 22 mm male
- Electrostatic filter media, per the company catalog
- Single use
Applications
Anesthesia breathing systems and ICU ventilator circuits, placed at the patient end or at the machine port according to the circuit protocol. For circuits that need humidification as well as filtration, specify the HME filter instead; the two are often stocked side by side.
How to specify when requesting a quote
- Adult or child type and quantity
- Connector configuration required by your circuit
- Whether a gas sampling port is needed
- Unit pack, carton and private label
- Destination market and required test reports

Buyer questions, answered
Clear answers for preparing a comparable sourcing request for BV Filter.
HME filter vs bacterial viral filter: what is the difference?
A bacterial viral filter only filters the gas. An HME filter (HMEF) also keeps the patient's exhaled heat and moisture and returns it on the next breath. Use a BVF where humidification is supplied another way or is not needed, and an HMEF where passive humidification is wanted.
Where is a bacterial viral filter placed in a breathing circuit?
It is commonly placed at the patient end, between the airway device and the Y-piece, or at the inspiratory or expiratory port of the machine to protect the equipment. The position depends on the circuit and your infection control protocol.
Which connector sizes (15 mm / 22 mm) does the filter fit?
The listed connectors are 15 mm male, 15 mm female and 22 mm male, the conical sizes used on anesthesia and ventilator circuits. Tell us your circuit setup so the fit can be confirmed.
What filtration efficiency is stated?
The listed filtration efficiency is above 99.9%, with resistance below 100 Pa at 30 L/min. Request the test report with your quotation to see the method behind the figure.
